Free Choice or Feed Additive?
They are NOT the same!
Feeding/administering any supplement or minerals as Free Choice, which are to be fed as a Feed Additive can be deadly to your goats! Why? Because a feed additive is given just like you give a medication or grain, measured and limited. Otherwise overdose and death can occur in kids or adult goats.
What is the definition of feeding a supplement or minerals as Free Choice?
Feeding minerals free choice means providing livestock access to a mineral/vitamin supplement at any time they want, rather than a set amount or schedule. This allows animals to self-regulate their mineral intake based on their needs.
Here's an example
To feed Sweetlix minerals to goats, use free-choice feeding with a mineral feeder, ensuring goats have access to fresh, clean water. Provide one mineral feeder per 10-20 goats, placing them near water sources or loafing areas. Most Sweetlix products are formulated to be self-fed, meaning goats should consume them as needed.
